DMD performs over 200 individual projects each year, and our staff members have combined experience on thousands of design and construction efforts. Our experience includes the assessment and adaptation of new technologies and innovative approaches to typical or unique situations.

Diverse Project Sizes

Our projects fees range in value from $500 to well over $500,000. Because many of our projects have tight budgets, DMD has developed a highly efficient style of project management that delivers projects on time and on budget.

Traditional and Value-Based Delivery

We are experienced in delivering projects as traditional design-bid-build, as members of design-build (DB) teams, or as part of a public-private-partnership (P3) venture.

Quality Control (QC)

Experience has taught us the value and necessity to focus on quality. DMD has established a detailed internal quality control program to ensure that every project receives the attention needed. Our QC program is led by a QC manager who focuses on internal processes and results, and engages in a continual program of Quality Improvement (QI).

Schedule-Driven Responsiveness

DMD recognizes the importance of meeting deadlines and keeping projects on schedule. Our proactive approach identifies schedule-related issues up front, and our project managers focus resources to ensure that deadlines are understood and met.

Buildings

DMD provides design for new facilities and renovation of commerical and municipal buildings. Our expertise includes conditions surveys and design for energy efficiency.

Traffic Signals

DMD designs over 50 traffic signal projects each year, from single intersection signals to interconnected signals with complex traffic movements and preemption.

Street Lighting

DMD is one of the leading street lighting designers on the west coast. We design over 100 street lighting projects a year. Projects include residential and commercial developments as well as architectural streetscapes.

Highway Lighting

Our highway and freeway expertise includes davit lighting, highmast installations with or without raise/lowering systems and lighting for interchanges and collectors.

Sports Lighting Design

Our experience includes a wide variety of projects for indoor and outdoor facilities. Our staff has provided design services for over 150 sports lighting projects including rec fields, high school/college stadiums and professional arenas.

Sports Lighting Consulting Services

Our services include energy efficiency analyses, peer reviews, environmental impact studies, obtrusive light analyses, conditions assessments, and development of photo-realistic simulations for proposed facilities.

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)

Our ITS experience includes design for CCTV, changeable and variable message signs, weigh-in-motion facilities, lane control systems, toll plazas and other ITS elements.

Red Light Cameras

DMD's experience includes the installation of over 120 red light cameras. We provide design and construction administration, development of performance-based specifications, assistance developing legal models, and operational verification.

Architectural and Human Scale Lighting

We design lighting for flag poles, plazas, pathways, water features, trees and vegetation, streetscapes, and building exteriors and interiors.

Design Standards and Specifications

We have developed design and construction standards and specifications for transportation agencies, as well as private clients and local and regional governments.

Tunnels, Bridges and Elevated Transportation

We have performed numerous designs for tunnel lighting, bridges and elevated transit systems. Our expertise includes incorporating features for energy efficiency and ease of maintenance.

Guide Signing and Wayfinding

Our experience with signing includes illuminated and retroreflective sheeting, changeable message signs, variable message signs, flip disc technology and full matrix displays.
